Our student Diana Juanes Gusano defended her Thesis

On 25th October 2024, our student, Diana Juanes Gusano, successfully defended her Doctoral dissertation. The objective of her thesis, entitled “Development of Novel Wound Dressing Based on Elastin-like Recombinamers for Skin Regeneration”, is to develop novel wound dressings through the synthesis of elastin-based scaffolds, including membranes and hydrogels. In particular, a detailed physicochemical and biological characterisation of ELR membranes will be carried out in order to determine their suitability as dressings for the improvement of difficult-to-heal wounds through in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experiments. Furthermore, the creation of innovative multifunctional elastin-based hydrogels with a high degree of selectivity and bioactivity is proposed by the incorporation of laminin sequences that significantly improve keratinocyte adhesion, thereby conferring a benefit in wound healing.

This thesis has been developed under the supervision of Prof. José Carlos Rodríguez Cabello and Dra. Mercedes Santos García.

Well Done Diana! We wish you all the best!
